This is fantastic, thank you! I'm going to make a few updates to make it backward compatible with older versions of Python, but it otherwise looks great.

Hey @ESultanik I had to make some changes to publish this and now master is dirty so I opened a new PR with the changes at the state you approved: #3429

There's an issue with using import yaml in the compile file which prevents being able to run setup.py from the pypi publish script so may need to address that.

Should have probably done these edits on a new branch but our deploy got frozen due to relying on a git package directly and had to make some quick hacks 😓
