Welcome to Modbux! This guide will help you get up and running quickly.

Installation

Download

  1. Go to the latest release
  2. Download the appropriate version for your platform:
    • Windows: modbux-{version}-x64-setup.exe
    • macOS: modbux-{version}-universal.dmg

Install

Windows:

  • Run the .exe installer
  • Follow the installation wizard
  • Launch Modbux from the Start Menu or desktop shortcut
    • If Windows SmartScreen appears, click "More info" → "Run anyway"

macOS:

  • Open the .dmg file
  • Drag Modbux to your Applications folder
  • Launch from Applications
    • On first launch, right-click the app and select "Open" (or go to System Preferences → Security & Privacy → "Open Anyway")

First Launch

When you open Modbux, you'll see the home screen with three options:

  • Server (left): Simulate Modbus devices
  • Split (middle): Open both client and server in separate windows
  • Client (right): Connect to Modbus devices

Choose the mode you want to work in by clicking the corresponding button.

Quick Start Examples

As a Client

If you want to connect to and test a Modbus device:

  1. Click the Client button
  2. Configure your connection (TCP or RTU)
  3. Click Connect
  4. Start reading and writing registers

As a Server

If you want to simulate a Modbus device:

  1. Click the Server button
  2. Configure your server (port, Unit ID)
  3. Add registers (coils, holding registers, etc.)
  4. Your server starts automatically

Split Mode

If you want to test both client and server simultaneously:

  1. Click the Split button (middle icon)
  2. A new window opens with the server
  3. Your main window becomes the client
  4. You can now test client-server communication locally
