Linker Checklist

Read ELF header and section headers
Load .text, .symtab, .strtab, .shstrtab, .rel.text
Build symbol table and resolve local symbols (single file)
Decide output layout (place .text at fixed vaddr, compute offsets)
Apply R_X86_64_PC32 relocations to .text
Emit output ELF headers and sections
Set e_entry to main
