Javascript fails for services

I'm not sure if this falls under vines-services or vine-web.

I ran:

vines-services init wonderland.lit

then went to http://hostname:5280 and logged in. At that point, after clicking on services, files or setup, a Javascript error is thrown and nothing is displayed in the content area. Depending on the browser it's something along the lines of:

TypeError: 'null' is not an object (evaluating 'this.api.user.permissions')

It occurs in every browser I've tried (Chrome, Safari, FireFox, IE). After trying:

gem install vines vines-agent vines-services

I built the gems all from source, from HEAD, and the same error occurs.
