Angular fails to start correctly

On running the npm run start command , I am getting an error which states "ERROR in The Angular Compiler requires TypeScript >=3.4.0 and <3.6.0 but 3.9.9 was found instead."

Unfortunately my demo code is out of date. One could download the angular universal sample code from here https://angular.io/guide/universal. Then merge components from my demo code to build an updated version. It will be some time before I will be able to do this myself.
