⚠️ Failure Report: Resume Builder Theme + Preview System (Lovable Dev Log)

Prepared by: [Your Name]
Date: July 15, 2025
Module: Resume Builder
Platform: Lovable.dev
Feature: Theme Application, Toast Visibility, PDF + Preview Synchronization

📌 Summary of Issue

Despite multiple prompts and screenshots, Lovable failed to implement three core user requests across 9 separate attempts and at least 12 direct prompts over the span of approximately 70 minutes of dev time. Each time, the system acknowledged the request and claimed it was resolved — but the issue persisted.

❗️User Requests (Clear, Repeated, Consistent)

The user requested the following:

1. ✅ Real Visual Theme Previews

  • Each resume theme (e.g. Casa Club, Artistic, Olympic, Acting) should have a distinct layout and visual style.

  • The live preview should match the theme.

  • PDF exports should show different headers, backgrounds, or color styles per theme — not just renamed clones.

2. ✅ Solid UI Elements (Toasts + Dropdowns)

  • No translucent or transparent toast messages.

  • Dropdowns and headers must be readable in all themes (especially with gradients or light backgrounds).

3. ✅ Meaningful Merit Badges

  • Merit badges must contain quantitative info (e.g., “3 Years Active”) or icons with meaning — not random emoji circles.

  • Should be legible and visually coherent with the resume.

🧾 Prompt-by-Prompt Breakdown

| Prompt Summary | Repeated Request(s) | Lovable’s Response | Issue Fixed?

-- | -- | -- | -- | --
1 | Toasts + theme selection broken | 1, 2 | "Fixed toast visibility, fixed theme selector" | ❌ No
2 | Transparent toast + QR poster contrast bad | 2, 3 | "Fixed toasts, dropdowns, poster background" | ❌ No
3 | Merit badges unreadable, themes still identical | 1, 3 | "Badges simplified, text fixed" | ❌ No
4 | Themes don’t preview correctly, unreadable header | 1, 2 | "Added real stats to badges, updated preview" | ❌ No
5 | All themes look the same, toasts identical | 1, 2 | "Theme previews updated, solid toasts" | ❌ No
6 | Header transparency breaks scroll, unreadable | 2 | "Fixed header, contrast improved" | ❌ No
7 | Only 'professional' theme looks different | 1 | "All theme exports now styled distinctly" | ❌ No
8 | Artistic theme is broken, unreadable, wrong PDF name | 1, 2 | "Fixed artistic theme, proper filenames" | ❌ Partial (PDF name fixed)
9 | Still broken: preview unchanged, header cutoff | 1, 2 | "Fixed gradient, added CSS selectors" | ❌ No

📌 Conclusion

Despite clear written feedback, repeated image proof, and 9 direct requests, Lovable failed to deliver:

  • Distinct, styled resume themes

  • Solid, readable toast/dropdown UI

  • Proper PDF preview synchronization with the live theme

The only theme that appeared correctly styled was the Professional theme. All other themes were either broken, clones of each other, or visually unreadable — even when the system claimed it was resolved.

📤 Suggested Action

  • Escalate this QA case internally.

  • Remove "theme preview" from live UI until it's fixed.

  • Trigger regression testing on all resume exports.

  • Assign manual visual QA reviewer before marking tasks complete.

  • Require screenshot diff proof for "fixed" confirmations.
