I'm leaving this issue here for myself, or anyone else that wants to contribute a PR to update this repo. I've been quite time poor in the last 6 months but am doing my best to keep this repo relevant.

I also need to investigate newer node versions compatible with ESM modules and issues with min instances and region specific function instances.

The motivation being that full optimisation of functions involves using a bundler to minify the JS that is uploaded to the server. This will reduce time spent parsing the JS among other optimisaitons. From memory when I ran a few preliminary benchmarks, the minification further reduced cold start boot time by almost a second.
