Instructions to test this branch

Always create WhatsApp backup before extracting database.

1. Clone this repo and do a git checkout features/fast. If you don't have git installed then click here to download.
2. Run wa_kdbe.py by python3 wa_kdbe.py
3. Tell me how it goes.

I tried with command --allow-reboot using feature/fast and it turned out backup successfully:

This is helpful if you are trying to move your chats to signal, there was one project (https://github.com/jukefoxer/Signal-Android/) which could transfer this database into Signal's so that it is easy to switch from WhatsApp. That project required database to be stored in /sdcard.

I followed the default and got xdg-open: not found error.

This is to open file explorer on linux based where it stored your data, so that you don't have to do it.

Thanks, I didn't know that could work. One more question, say if I like to move my whatsapp chat data to another Android phone, should copy this msgstore.db necessory?

No, for that regular msgstore.db.crypt file is enough. Register on new device and tap "restore backup".
