Selenium Chrome Plugin unsupported and autoremoved

The Selenium IDE Chrome Plugin on current chrome version 137.0.7151.120 is unsupported, because it doesnt follow chrome "best practices". I am not able to install or use the previously installed plugin.

To Reproduce

1. Use Chrome 137.0.7151.120 on Windows 10 Pro 22H2
2. Open https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/selenium-ide/mooikfkahbdckldjjndioackbalphokd?hl=en
3. See Chrome Shop error message

Environment

OS: Windows 10 Pro 22H2
Selenium IDE Version: 3.17.2
Selenium SIDE Runner Version: unknown

Browser: Chrome
Browser Version: Chrome 137.0.7151.120

After I saw the plugin is unsupported in Chrome, I tested the new Selenium IDE (electron) but there are a lot of problems. I'm sorry, I searched a plan B... I installed Chromium on my computer and I installed the plugin (again in chrome but disabled).

First, open Chrome, go to chrome://extensions, and enable "Developer mode". Find Selenium IDE and note its ID. Then, navigate to Chrome's extension folder on your system – it's usually in ~/.config/google-chrome/Default/Extensions/ on Linux, or similar paths on Windows/macOS. Locate the folder matching the extension ID, then find the subfolder with the version number inside it. This is the one you need!

Next, open Chromium, go to chrome://extensions, and also enable "Developer mode". Click on "Load unpacked" and select that version-numbered folder you found earlier. That's it! Your Selenium IDE should now appear in Chromium. Just remember, it won't receive automatic updates there.

I hope this will allow us to wait for the next version of Selenium IDE.

Yea, the stand alone selenium IDE seems to have times of problems :(

Thx for the work around! So it is disabled by policy rather than not working.

Do someone know what kind of “best practice” is broken? Sadly the “learn more” link ist rather unspecific.

My understanding is that selenium ide is no longer being supported. Our dev team switched to Playwright and it works well. There is a comment on one of these issues from the developer that he no longer has the time or resources to allocate to selenium ide.
