Selection handles disappear when text changes server side

Steps to reproduce:

1. open a document
2. select some text
3. change the document from another device (to enforce a server side content change)

When the content of the editor is changed because of a change coming from the server through sync while the user has an active selection the selection handles disappear. The selection background color stays but the handles are missing and any "popup" GUI to "copy, select all" etc. also disappears which effectively renders the visible selection useless.

The expected behaviour would be to retain the selection, its handles and also the interaction overlay related to it.
