Simplify UI

Thank you very much for the program. I think the UI could be a little bit more conform with other apps.
What do you think about sth like that?

I see where you’re coming from.
The challenge is that we need to hide some important options (like Duplicate, Delete, Copy SSH Command and Test SSH Connection) inside a context/hamburger menu which would result in a menu with four entries.

Ideally, I’d prefer a design that makes these actions more accessible, but this might require a UX tradeoff. Still, I’ll experiment with different UI approaches to see if we can achieve the best of both worlds.

This is great advice, and I’ll definitely take it into consideration. Thanks for the suggestion — I’ll work on incorporating it for the 1.2.4 update.

Yes, I would suggest, the really top actions in the context of one connection would land at the top and the rest under the menu.

With this, you have room to add more functionality later and also to make it adaptive for smaller screen sizes.

Very cool. Looks already much better now. Great work. I guess, some things are still intended to be completed, but I don't know, so I just repeat 😄

My suggestions:

• remove the counter (3 hosts) completely. I think it's not that relevant how many connections there are. Or, if you really think it's important, move it to the bottom
• the + button right next to it, is ok, as it belongs to the context of the whole list. The delete and duplicate buttons belong to the context of one connection, so I would move them in the hamburger menu on the very right, as I sketched it above. I think they won't be used very often. If you, nevertheless, think it should be very fast accessible, you could move it to each entry. But then I would show them only when the mouse is hovering over an entry
• The search button, I would move at one point up the very top of the window. Then it means, it works in the context of one connection. But for now it's already much better

I like this design, but the search button bothers me.

That space is just for a search bar, and there isn’t much to search anyway. So I was thinking that having a search bar in the host editor is redundant.

To be honest. I didn't really understood/checked out what the search actually exactly was doing. 🤣

Maybe an alternative would be a filter button.

And then an appearing text box when it is activated.

But honestly, I'm not 100% convinced on this solution.
I guess, what you want is a short cut to find a certain attribute if you don't know where it is. So I would assume the best would be, that the search takes all tabs into account. Currently I think, it searches only in the active one.

So I still think, the solution of a search on the top left corner would be quite nice, leading to a screen with a filter text box and then all matching entries of all tabs below (with matching for header, input box description and content). Similar, what e.g. VS Code does.

The only thing left is hiding that searchbar of hostlist (I removed search in hosteditor).

That save and revert only appears when changes happen on a host.

Very cool. I like it.

I would change it still a little bit:

Move the search icon to the left (standard border width to the left)
Move the menu to the right.
I would also shrink the borders right and left of the connection list, to not waste

Not sure what the '<' button is this meant for. Should it remove the left part?

I didn't find out till I literally released the app on Flathub and advertised through TWIG. 😁
Also just to clarify, general purposes of my app is different than sshPilot. SSH-Studio is meant to make editing ~/.ssh/config much more safer and easier.
